The Mission: to empower the University to contribute to solving society's most pressing challenges by demonstrating living examples of systems innovation across our campus, community, and beyond. We believe in the power of collaboration and creativity to drive positive change and create a sustainable, equitable, and just world for all.
Mission Lab is based on the University of Limerick Campus, a vibrant and dynamic hub of academic and cultural activity, and a source of continuous inspiration for innovation within and across our diverse campus grounds.
At Mission Lab, we believe in the power of community and the role that universities can play in creating positive social, economic, and environmental impact. Mission Lab aspires to act as a hub for innovative solutions to the grand challenges facing the university, the city, and the wider region. Our missions are designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and encourage partnerships with industry and community organisations to drive meaningful systemic change within the places and spaces we live our lives.
Individual Mission Labs are soon to be located across both the University of Limerick Main & City Campus, inviting students, faculty, and community members to join mission activities at the site of change.
Who can join a Mission?
Students
By joining a mission, students have the opportunity to work on real-world projects, collaborate with industry partners and faculty, and gain valuable skills and experience that will benefit them both in their personal and professional development. Find a mission that resonates with you and reach out to get started.
Faculty & Researchers
We welcome academics and researchers from all disciplines to join our missions and work on projects that align with their research interests and expertise. Mission Lab offers the opportunity to engage in meaningful research and teaching activities across our entire mission portfolio.
Staff
All staff working within and across the university are invited to join mission teams based on their relevant interests, skills and experiences. Mission Lab offers staff the opportunity to create social and environmental impact across all areas of the university and the broader local community.
Community
We all have the potential to contribute to a sustainable future. Whether you have a direct affiliation with the university or not, if you are someone with a passion for making a difference, your unique skills and perspectives are valuable to our mission of creating positive change within the places and spaces we call home.
External Partners
Public and private partners have the opportunity to work with talented students and faculty, access cutting-edge research, and contribute to social and environmental impact within the region. We aspire to foster a local innovation ecosystem that is inspired by our missions and works together to build a sustainable future for us all.
Mission Lab Team
Mission Lab is an initiative created to enable the implementation of the UL Mission-based Sustainability Framework 2030. A sustainable world will not happen without determined effort – our actions today determine the future we manifest. The gravity of this responsibility necessitates that we do not drift along with the tides of change. Download the framework to discover our in-depth approach to mission-oriented and sustainability-led innovation.
